I'm someone who Gets Good Done
A fairer, safer, greener Melbourne for everyone.
I’ve dedicated my life to public service and making a difference – and I’ve got plenty more to give.
I love fixing things, solving problems and making things happen. It’s how I’ve always been, and I find a lot of joy in helping people.
That’s why I love working in local government so much. You’re close to the people you serve, and you get to see the impact of policies and decisions up close.
Melbourne is a global city that deserves bold ideas and ambition.
Someone who brings people together and will fight for our city every single day.
Someone who Gets Good Done.

1974
Like so many Melburnians, I was born overseas. My parents moved here to start a new life when I was young. I think in some ways it makes me value how special this city is even more. Melbourne became my home – somewhere to belong, and to return to.
My dad was a big influence on me growing up. He was always helping out at the church or school working bee and taught me about community service and giving back. From a young age that tradition of social justice was instilled in me – of caring for your neighbour, and making sure no one goes without.
Dad still volunteers with Vinnies food relief in Carlton and the inner city, delivering meals and groceries to those who might otherwise miss out.

When I see someone struggling, I can’t help but reach out and give them a hand.
I was an early director of the Big Issue in Australia, which has supported 7,000 street vendors to sell more than 13 million copies of the magazine since 1996.
The Big Issue is much more than a magazine. It’s about empowerment, dignity, and a stepping stone for so many people going through a tough time.

As a young man I lost mates to suicide, and my dad has battled protstate cancer - so I’m only too aware of how many men neglect their own health and wellbeing.
I was one of the pioneering Mo Bros behind Movember, and for over twenty years I've helped the charity grow from a local cause to a global movement.

2010
I’ve worked for two Prime Ministers, two Premiers and two Lord Mayors.
Under Julia Gillard’s leadership, I was tasked with helping establish the NDIS and the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

2016
The greatest honour of my life has been to serve the city I love. In 2016 I was elected as a councillor in the City of Melbourne, and returned as Deputy Lord Mayor in 2020.
During the pandemic I saw how tough some international students were doing it, and I’m proud that we were the first government anywhere in Australia to set up a hardship fund to help them through it.

2024
As an independent candidate, I can rise above party politics and focus on what’s right for Melbourne.
I only have one boss – the people of Melbourne – and I’m not affected by what might be going on in Canberra or Spring Street.
My campaign will be people-powered, not party affiliated. I’m free to say and do whatever is needed without the backing of the major parties.
